Why standard software eventually reaches its limits

Standard software is built for the average case. It covers what works the same way in as many companies as possible. The things that actually set your business apart are usually missing. So people improvise: a spreadsheet on the side, an extra field that was meant for something else, an arrangement only two colleagues know about.

That works for a while. Then the company grows, someone retires, an order slips through the cracks. The software forces your team into steps nobody ever chose, and the licence costs still rise every year. At some point you are paying money for a way of working that costs you time.

Custom software turns this around. Instead of bending your processes to fit someone else’s program, we build the program around your processes. Anything you do not need never goes in. What you use every day comes first.

Typical signs

Important figures are produced in Excel, not in the system.
The same data is maintained in two places.
New employees need weeks to learn all the special rules.
Every small change means asking the vendor first.
Licence costs go up while the benefit stays the same.

When custom development is not worth it

Not every task needs software of its own. If there is a proven product that fits your case without awkward workarounds, we will say so.

Often the better answer is a combination: standard software for accounting and payroll, plus a lean custom application for the part that defines your business.

What we build for you

Inventory and warehouse management

Stock levels, batches, serial numbers and reordering follow your rules, not the rules of a standard product.

Quotes and order processing

Costing, quote, order and invoice in one flow, including your pricing logic and discount tiers.

Inspection and documentation systems

Capture forms, inspection records and acceptances digitally, and offline on a tablet on site.

Customer and project management

Everything relating to a customer in one place, with permissions, history and follow up reminders.

Reports and key figures

Reports that answer your questions instead of default charts nobody reads.

Replacing isolated legacy tools

Move several Access databases, spreadsheets and small tools into one system, step by step.

The technology we use for it

We choose technology to suit the task, not out of preference. For business applications with large amounts of data we often use Python or C# together with PostgreSQL. Where a web interface is needed, React and TypeScript come in. Operation usually runs on Docker, so the application behaves on your server exactly as it does in our test environment.

Application logic

PythonC# / .NETJavaPHPNode.js

From the first idea to daily operation

First conversation, no preparation needed

You tell us how the work is done in your company and what keeps causing trouble. We ask questions and say openly whether we are the right partner.

Analysis on site

We look at the existing systems and talk to the people who work with them every day. This often brings up requirements nobody would have mentioned otherwise.

Concept and fixed price quote

You get a description in plain language of what will be built, with the effort and the time frame. Only then do you decide.

Development in short stages

Every two to three weeks you see a working version. That way we notice early if something was meant differently.

Testing, training, handover

A joint acceptance test with real data, training for your staff, and the documentation and source code go to you.

Operation and further development

On request we take care of hosting, updates and extensions. Years later you still have the same contact person.

What your own software gives you

No unused features

You only pay for what you actually use. The interface stays clear and training stays short.

No recurring licence fees

Instead of a fee per user per month, you invest once in development, and the result belongs to you for good.

Grows with your business

New requirements can be added without waiting for a vendor update.

Clean data

One source instead of five. Reports add up because everyone works with the same figures.

Independence

Source code and documentation stay with you. You are not tied to one supplier.

Competitive edge

Whatever you do better than others is reflected in the software. A standard product cannot do that.

Common questions about custom software

That depends entirely on the scope. A focused tool for one specific task costs far less than a business application that twenty people use every day. After the first conversation and a short analysis we give you a reliable figure, before any costs arise.

A first usable version is often ready after four to eight weeks. The full scope takes three to six months, depending on the project. We work in stages on purpose, so you do not have to wait until the end to see what has been built.

Usually yes. We have already migrated data from Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, old inventory systems and self built tools. A careful check beforehand matters, because records that have grown over the years nearly always contain duplicates and gaps.

You keep the source code, the database and the documentation. We hand everything over so that another development team can carry on. The technology creates no dependency on us.

No. You can run the application in your own network, in our data centre in Germany, or with a cloud provider of your choice. If your people need access while they are out of the office, we secure it with VPN or a protected web interface.

We offer maintenance agreements with fixed response times. You can take one out, but you do not have to. Without an agreement you can still reach us, then on a time and materials basis and subject to availability.

Tell us how you work

You do not need to bring a written specification. A conversation about how the work is done in your company and where it gets stuck is enough to start.
